Russia releases images of the world's most powerful nuclear missile for the first time.

Sputnik reports that the Russian National Missile Center named after Academician Makeyev has for the first time publicly released images of the new Sarmat strategic ballistic missile.

According to the center's statement, the Sarmat strategic missile system "was designed to ensure effectiveness and nuclear deterrence capabilities through Russia's strategic strength."

The new missile will replace the most powerful nuclear intercontinental ballistic missile, the Voevoda, which NATO calls the SS-18 Satan.

The old missile was already a nearly "perfect weapon" in itself, while the new missile will surpass it in terms of combat equipment and the ability to overcome missile defense systems. The Sarmat can carry a 10-ton warhead and reach anywhere in the world.

Last August, Russia completed testing of the missile's first-stage engine. The new missile is expected to be deployed by the end of 2018.
