A series of major websites in the US are inaccessible due to DDos.
Dyn - a domain name server provider in New Hampshire (USA) has just been the victim of a large DDoS attack starting at 7:10 am on October 21 (local time).
According to Engadget, this attack caused some users on the East Coast of the United States to be unable to access Twitter, Spotify, Netflix, Amazon, Tumblr, Reddit, Pinterest, PayPal and other websites.

According to Flashpoint, the attack on Dyn’s infrastructure was carried out by the Mirai botnet. Analysts are still investigating the potential impact of this operation and it is unclear whether other botnets were involved.
Mirai is not a new hacking tool. Just last month, security researcher Brian Krebs discovered the botnet being used to carry out an unprecedented attack, peaking at 620 Gbps of traffic at one point.
According to Krebs, the Mirai botnet took advantage of weak security protocols on Internet of Things (IoT) devices to infiltrate 145,000 devices, including routers, set-top boxes, security cameras, and DVRs in offices or homes around the world. The devices were in turn used to create a network of robots, or botnets, that sent millions of commands to the website's server system, making it impossible for customers to access the website.
The source code for Mirai was released on the Dark Web — a site that acts as an underground exchange for hackers. The release of the source code has led some security experts to predict that the code will soon be widely used by hackers. That's why Mirai was used in the attack on Dyn.
For its part, Dyn was struggling to contain the attack on its servers. After about nine hours, a third wave of attacks continued against the company.
About 11 hours after the DDoS attack was launched, Dyn essentially resolved the attack and services began working again, USA Today reported.
Notably, the attack comes at a sensitive time when security experts are concerned that US organizations and infrastructure could face large-scale attacks from hackers.
