After graduating from high school, Ha Nhi studied for half a year at the Flight Training Center in Ho Chi Minh City and three months in the military in Nha Trang. Confident in her French and English skills, the 9X went to the US to study pilot training for a year and then returned to study the simulated cockpit. After completing these courses, she applied to Vietjet Air and became a co-pilot in December 2015. "As of October 2016, I have accumulated about 500 flight hours," she said.
According to Nhi, the biggest challenge is physical fitness. She had to train and run a lot to qualify to pursue a career as a pilot. To maintain her health, she also practices yoga and gym in her free time.
Quit teaching to become a pilot
Also a pilot at Vietjet Air, Nguyen Mai Tuyet Dung (born in 1991) has a very different story from Ha Nhi. After graduating from the English Department of Ho Chi Minh City University of Education, she became an English instructor at the Flight Training Center for pilots who want to become captains.

9X left the podium to fulfill his dream of "flying" in the sky. |
After a period of interacting with many pilots, Tuyet Dung felt a love for and desire to stick with this job. “I used to think that being a pilot was a dry job, only working with machines. In fact, this job requires dynamism, creativity and high discipline. This is very similar to the teaching profession that I love,” she shared.
Turning to the pilot career after graduating from university and working as a teacher, Tuyet Dung was somewhat more mature than her colleague Ha Nhi. However, she encountered another difficulty. That was quitting her job and starting a new major which was very expensive.
“My parents were very surprised by this decision. To be honest, the family did not have that much money for me to go to school,” she confided. However, she received a lot of support from her family during her time studying to become a pilot in the US.
When asked about her future, Tuyet Dung affirmed: “At this time, I want to focus on flying well to become a captain.” However, she did not hide her intention to return to the teaching podium. “Being a pilot does not extinguish my dream of teaching. I have to fly well to have the knowledge to teach the next generation of students and pilots, especially female pilots,” she confidently said.

Dung's biggest wish right now is to become a captain. |
The stories of Ha Nhi and Tuyet Dung have motivated many young women to boldly pursue the pilot profession, which is considered a “narrow door” for women. In addition, since the aviation market has had the participation of private companies such as Vietjet Air, this door has opened even wider.
Vietjet offers young people, especially women, a multinational working environment thanks to its extensive flight network, attractive income and the opportunity to be trained abroad, working with a team of experienced pilots... Furthermore, this airline also supports young people to realize their dreams by publicly announcing its recruitment policy, only requiring good English, good health, no requirement for university graduation...

The opportunity to become female pilots for young Vietnamese people is more open. |
According to Mr. Luu Duc Khanh - CEO of Vietjet, this airline promotes equality policy, not placing too much emphasis on the gender or nationality of pilots.
“Whether male or female, you are respected and welcomed. However, female pilots still have their own advantages. Their presence in the cockpit brings a beautiful, dynamic, innovative image, in line with the criteria Vietjet is aiming for,” he affirmed. He also added that in 2017, Vietjet will cooperate with Airbus to build an Aviation Academy.
