The report shows that women are busy with many different jobs in a day, from administrative work to housework. The total amount of time spent on all jobs is 50 minutes more than men. Although in the past 10 years, the proportion of female workers in the world has accounted for 1/4, there is still inequality in the division of work. It will take at least 170 years to solve this problem.
Accordingly, researchers believe that the unnamed housework that women have to do every day should also be counted as labor. Because housework and childcare are often unpaid, but if combined with paid work time, it is women who are working the most hours each day. Meanwhile, men only have to do 39% of the workload.
In some countries like India, Portugal, Estonia, women work 50 days more than men in a year. In Japan or the Netherlands, men participate in housework for 30 minutes a day. Although not much, it shows concern and sharing.
The inequality is most evident in Italy, where women work an average of 22 hours in the office, plus 35 hours on housework, each week, 11 hours more than men.
Although gender inequality is not as profound as it was decades ago, there is still no absolute equality between the two sexes. Women are always the ones who have to shoulder most of the household chores. They have less time for themselves and develop their own careers.
