German Foreign Minister Steinmeier warned Britain on November 4 not to delay negotiations to leave the EU following the ruling of the country's Supreme Court.

Previously, the British Supreme Court required the British Government to have the approval of Parliament before it could start the process of leaving the EU.

Speaking after meeting with British Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson in Berlin, Germany, the German Foreign Minister stressed that delaying Britain's exit from the EU would not benefit anyone. Therefore, the British Government needs to quickly consult the British Parliament.

For his part, the British Foreign Secretary said that the High Court's ruling cannot interfere with the British Government's roadmap to leave the EU. According to Mr. Johnson, the UK's exit from the EU will benefit both the UK and the EU.

In a related development, British Prime Minister Theresa May on the same day affirmed to European leaders that the March 2017 deadline to start negotiations on Britain's exit from the EU "remains unchanged", despite the ruling of the British Supreme Court requiring the power to be given to the country's legislature, not the government, to initiate the negotiation process.

Previously, on November 3, the British Government announced that it would appeal the decision of the British High Court to give Parliament the power to initiate the process of negotiating Britain's exit from the EU, a move that could delay this process.

According to a statement issued by the British Prime Minister's Office, the British Government emphasized that the British people voted to leave the EU in a referendum approved by Parliament./.
