A South Korean court has ordered the arrest of two people who once held close aides to President Park Geun Hye, the latest development in the scandal facing the female president.

Protest demanding the resignation of the South Korean president: Tens of thousands of people flocked to the center of Seoul, South Korea, to call on President Park Geun-hye to resign due to the scandal of allowing a close friend to interfere in politics.

On November 6, a court in South Korea issued arrest warrants for An Chong Bum and Jeong Ho Seong, two former important confidants of President Park. Before the official arrest warrants were issued, An was arrested urgently while Jeong was detained, Reuters reported.

Both An and Jeong are accused of involvement in the scandal involving President Park allowing her close friend Choi Soon Sil to manipulate politics. Former adviser An Chong Bum faces charges of abuse of power and personal gain while adviser Jeong Ho Seong is suspected of leaking state secrets.

The two men were also suspected of using their power to pressure organizations and businesses in South Korea to contribute to nonprofit foundations linked to them. They resigned last month after the scandal broke out.

On the evening of November 5, more than 40,000 people gathered in the capital Seoul to protest and demand President Park's resignation. 17,000 security personnel were deployed to maintain order and respond to any arising situations.

Previously, on November 4, public opinion poll results showed that Ms. Park's support rate dropped to only 5%, the lowest since these polls began in 1988.

President Park Geun Hye has apologized to the people and said she is willing to be questioned by prosecutors. No president in South Korea's history has been investigated.

At the end of October, Korean public opinion was shaken by the scandal of Ms. Choi Soon Sil using her relationship with President Park Geun Hye to interfere in state affairs and enjoy special benefits.

Ms. Park has admitted letting Choi edit some of her speeches early in her presidency. However, the president has denied allegations that Ms. Choi had access to other documents, nor that she profited from her relationship with Ms. Park.
