The Chief Justice of the Supreme People's Procuracy frankly admitted that officials involved in wrongful convictions and letting criminals escape have been dealt with.

On the morning of October 28, reporting on the work of the Chief Justice of the Supreme People's Procuracy at the 2nd session of the 14th National Assembly, Chief Justice Le Minh Tri said that the sector continues to direct and synchronously implement solutions to combat injustice and wrongful convictions right from the stage of handling denunciations and reports of crimes and throughout the investigation, prosecution and trial process.

In addition, the Supreme People's Procuracy actively and proactively coordinated with the Supreme People's Court and the Ministry of Public Security to collect documents, examine and resolve a number of particularly serious cases with sentences of over 20 years, life imprisonment, and death penalty with appeals for injustice, such as the cases of Tran Van Vot and Huynh Van Nen.

The Procuracy also focuses on grasping information, closely managing the situation of injustice and mistakes, especially cases of prolonged complaints and press reports, promptly directing the resolution of the wronged, strictly handling leaders and Procurators who have committed violations leading to injustice and mistakes, and violating discipline.

Director Le Minh Tri frankly admitted that in 2016, there were 38 cases handled, including 1 provincial-level director, 6 district-level directors, 4 deputy directors, and the rest were prosecutors.

According to the Chief Justice of the Supreme People's Procuracy, these officials were prosecuted for their involvement in wrongful convictions and letting criminals escape.

The head of the prosecution industry also said that to ensure against wrongdoing, the responsibilities in the 2015 Criminal Procedure Code stipulate that the prosecution industry, in addition to the task of supervising investigation activities, must also directly investigate to supplement documents and evidence when approving, when detecting signs of injustice, mistakes, omission of crimes, violations of the law, or must directly investigate to check and supplement evidence when deciding to prosecute.

In addition, directly supervise many investigative activities of investigators, directly carry out many procedural activities to resolve criminal cases objectively and accurately, ensuring human rights and the right to defense, such as: recording audio, video, providing records and documents to defendants and defense attorneys...

The Law on Detention and Temporary Detention stipulates that the People's Procuracy must strengthen the supervision of detention and temporary detention, and correct overdue cases or violations in this work, in order to ensure human rights.

In case of serious violation, the prosecutor may be held criminally liable.

Director Le Minh Tri proposed to continue supervising the implementation of the task of fighting injustice and wrongdoing.

At the same time, pay attention to monitoring the implementation of the task of preventing criminals from escaping, especially crimes related to corruption, position and economy.

The Supreme People's Procuracy also recommended that the National Assembly study and issue a Resolution against letting criminals escape to contribute to preventing and detecting crimes and preventing and combating negativity in law enforcement agencies at all levels.
