Suspended for 15 days

On the afternoon of October 31, Mr. Dang Cong Linh, Director of the Cooperative Bank of Vietnam (Co.opBank) branch in Nghe An, said that he had temporarily suspended Mr. Hoang Huu Duc from work for beating a female gas station employee.

In Decision No. 556/QD- CNNA dated October 31, 2016, Mr. Duc was temporarily suspended from work for 15 days, starting from October 31, 2016 to review the content reported by the press.

As Nghe An Newspaper reported the incident, at around 8:10 a.m. on October 24, Mr. Hoang Huu Duc (born in 1979, residing in Vinh City) drove a car with license plate 37A - 321.99 into Nghi Phu gas station (Nghi Phu commune, Vinh City) to fill up with gas.

Here, Mr. Duc asked Ms. Nguyen Thi Ngoc, a store employee, to pump 500,000 VND worth of gasoline into his car's tank. After that, Mr. Duc drove the car out of the store.

About 10 minutes later, Mr. Duc drove back and said the staff here had underfilled the tank and asked for more gas to be pumped into the car. At that time, Ms. Ngoc was pumping gas for another car so she asked Mr. Duc to check the meter again.

The two sides continued to argue, and in frustration, Mr. Duc snatched the gas pump trigger from Ms. Ngoc's hand, hit the employee in the head, and then left. Ms. Ngoc screamed, Mr. Duc looked back and saw blood flowing from the female employee's head, so he ran over and put his arms around her head.

The incident was recorded, and when the gas company's technician came down to check, he determined that the error was due to Mr. Duc's gas gauge. All actions of the customer assaulting the female employee were recorded by the gas station's security camera.

It is known that Mr. Hoang Huu Duc is a credit officer with 10 years of experience working at the Cooperative Bank of Vietnam, Nghe An branch (Co.opBank).

During the suspension period, Mr. Hoang Huu Duc must hand over his work to the Corporate Credit Department.

Bank officer apologizes

Speaking to reporters, Mr. Duc said he was very regretful for his excessive actions. Mr. Duc said he did not want to do that and had visited Ms. Nguyen Thi Ngoc's house many times to apologize.

“At that time, I knew I had gone too far, so I was about to return to the car, but Ngoc cried out that she was bleeding. Seeing that, I panicked, put my arm around her, stopped the bleeding, and brought her inside the house, using a cigarette to cover her wound. After that, I immediately took her to the hospital for a check-up,” Mr. Duc affirmed that he did not intentionally hit the female gas station attendant.

“After that, I went to Ngoc’s house and apologized. Ngoc’s family also forgave me. This was an accident, I didn’t want it to happen,” said Duc.
