In response to this situation, in September 2016, the Vinh City Police established a special case codenamed 916B, concentrating forces and applying professional methods and measures to combat and dismantle the gambling den.
At approximately 4:45 PM on November 5th, over 40 criminal police officers from Vinh City Police Department launched an operation to crack the case. The police force was divided into three assault teams. Team 1 attacked from the main entrance, Team 2 climbed ladders to reach the second floor, and Team 3 used a fire ladder to access the third floor of the house.
“While the first team was breaking down the main door, several suspects jumped to the back of the house and onto the surrounding rooftops in an attempt to escape. One suspect jumped from the first floor to the ground in an attempt to get away but was also apprehended. One suspect even threw hundreds of millions of dong into a drainage ditch during his escape, but was caught by criminal investigators,” a police investigator said.
During the arrest, Vinh City police seized 540 million VND and 10 used decks of playing cards from the gambling table. When apprehended, the suspects fled, discarding the money and cards behind Nguyen Thanh Binh's house. The task force subsequently recovered an additional 300 million VND and 5 unused decks of cards.
During a search of Nguyen Thanh Binh's house, police seized an additional 500 million VND. The total amount seized in the case is 1.34 billion VND. Police also confiscated 4 cars and 2 motorbikes.
While the police were conducting the search, a number of gangsters gathered outside the house, attempting to exert pressure. In response, the Provincial Police deployed 113 emergency response units, riot police, and traffic police to provide support, ensure security and order, regulate traffic, and escort the suspects and evidence to the Vinh City Police headquarters.
The case is currently under further investigation by the Vinh City Police Department.
