(Baonghean.vn) - On November 7, Vinh City Police were still detaining 7 suspects to clarify their gambling behavior, including: Nguyen Thi Huyen, Nguyen Xuan Minh, Nguyen Tho Quyen, Dinh Xuan Hai, Le Tuan Dung, Ngo Thi Phuong, Tran Thi Hoa. Meanwhile, 7 other subjects including Nguyen Thanh Binh, Ho Van Dung, Nguyen Van Dung, Nguyen Quoc Toan, Tran Xuan Hung, Nguyen Hong Long and Duong Van Tuan, were detained to investigate the behavior of "gambling".

According to police records, most of the arrested “gamblers” have criminal records and are notorious “gangsters” in Vinh City and some neighboring areas. Prominent among these suspects is Nguyen Thanh Binh, famous in the “Thanh Vinh” underworld, with the name “Binh Luc”. Binh is also the owner of the 3-story house where the police broke in and arrested the gamblers while they were engrossed in gambling. Binh is 41 years old this year but has 4 previous convictions for robbery, intentional injury and gambling.

Binh used to be one of the famous gangsters in Ho Chi Minh City, specializing in protection at bus stations. After many times of being in trouble with the law, he returned to Vinh City, living in a 3-story house at 200 Pham Hong Thai Street, Vinh Tan Ward. With his reckless nature, Binh quickly gained the respect of many juniors in the "Thanh Vinh" underworld, who asked him to follow them. After gaining a bit of a reputation in the underworld, Binh made profits through many illegal means, including organizing gambling.

To avoid the authorities, “Binh Luc” reinforced the house with high walls, making it difficult for outsiders to access without the owner’s consent. In addition, for safety, Binh also assigned many underlings to guard and intimidate neighbors who dared to “comment” on this gambling den. For a long time, Binh’s gambling den caused much resentment among the people in the neighborhood as well as affected security and order in the area.

Among the suspects arrested this time is Nguyen Thi Huyen (42 years old, Doi Cung ward). When mentioning Huyen, everyone in the "Thanh Vinh" underworld seems to know her as "Huyen tobacco", with a rebellious and reckless nature. Even when she was still in school, Huyen was a special female student with strange tricks such as robbing friends, skipping school, and forming a gang of children. Especially since marrying a husband with a reputation in the underworld in Vinh, Huyen quickly became famous and naturally became a "big sister".

The name Huyen "tobacco" began to emerge with reckless murder-for-hire deals. The subjects that Huyen chose as her followers were young, uneducated or homeless men. She fed and housed them all, took care of all their living expenses, including the cost of going to nightclubs or paying for girls, and even provided emotional support for these subjects, so they always respected her and were ready to risk their lives with anyone who dared to insult Huyen.

Until now, the people of Vinh city are still shocked by the brawl at Vinh City Hospital area not long ago. On Christmas Eve, December 24, 2007, at a nightclub in Vinh city, Huyen "tobacco" gang encountered Thang "tuong" group.

Huyen "tobacco" is also one of the gangsters arrested in the gambling den.

After a few loud words, one of Huyen's followers suddenly used pepper spray to hit Nguyen Van Hiep (Hiep "bald", residing in Thanh Tri, Hanoi), a follower of Thang, in the face, causing him to be hospitalized. Just waiting for that, both groups rushed at each other and stabbed each other. Afterwards, Huyen "tobacco" herself took Hiep to the hospital to clean his wound.

However, while Huyen was still standing in the hospital grounds, Hiep's gang, led by Thang "tuong", brought about ten of his men carrying many knives and swords. Knowing that the clash would continue, Huyen called her men for support. Ten minutes later, dozens of Huyen's men arrived on motorbikes carrying many knives, swords, and water pipes to fight Thang's group.

At the end of the fight, Thang "tuong" had his tendons cut in both arms. Many of Thang's followers were seriously injured. Huyen's group threw away the weapons in the hospital yard and fled. Huyen "tobacco" was later sentenced to prison, but her gang continued to operate under the leadership of Huyen's son. After being imprisoned twice for intentional injury and gambling, it seemed that Huyen would repent, but this "monster" continued to return to the underworld, sinking deeper into the path of crime.

In addition to Huyen “tobacco” and Nguyen Thanh Binh, among the suspects is Le Tuan Dung (34 years old, also known as Dung “Hau”, Hung Binh ward, Vinh city), also a famous “big brother” in the “Thanh Vinh” underworld. Dung has many followers and is famous for his cold-blooded purges.

Previously, on the afternoon of November 5, more than 40 Vinh City police officers disguised themselves and lay in ambush for several hours in front of Nguyen Thanh Binh's 3-story house. At around 5 p.m., after ascertaining that gamblers were organizing gambling in Binh's "bunker", the detectives immediately neutralized the "owls" who were on guard duty in front of the house, organizing a break-in in 3 groups. Group 1 attacked from the main door, group 2 climbed the ladder to attack the 2nd floor, and group 3 followed the fire ladder to approach the 3rd floor of the house.

During the arrest, Vinh City Police seized 540 million VND and 10 used decks of cards from the gambling table. When the arrest was made, the suspects fled and threw the money and cards behind Nguyen Thanh Binh's house but were unsuccessful. The task force later seized an additional 300 million VND and 5 unused decks of cards. Searching Binh's house, the police seized an additional 500 million VND. In addition to the 1.34 billion VND seized in the case, the police also seized 4 cars and 2 motorbikes.

While the police were searching, outside there were many gangsters gathered in front of the house to put pressure. In that situation, the provincial police had to mobilize the 113 police force, mobile police, and traffic police to support, ensure security and order, regulate traffic and escort the subjects as well as the evidence to the Vinh City Police headquarters. According to the police, this is the largest gambling case ever busted in Vinh City.
