(Baonghean.vn) - It's the Tet flower planting season, but people in traditional flower villages on the outskirts of Vinh city are extremely worried, because this year there have been continuous rains and floods...

Walking along the traditional flower villages of Kim Chi and Kim Phuc hamlets of Nghi An commune (Vinh city) at this time, although the flower planting season has begun, most of the flower gardens are empty, or the ones that have been planted are in some places and some are gone.

Flower beds damaged after many days of being soaked in water

In previous years, at this time, dahlias, chrysanthemums, pansies, and crystal flowers... had grown to be as tall as two adult hands. But this year, these flowers are still in the nursery, and a few have not been planted by people for long.

Mr. Thai Van Nghiem (Hamlet 3, Nghi An Commune), who has decades of experience growing flowers, said: "This year, my family planted about 5,000 chrysanthemums, 10,000 dahlias, and about 700 other plants, but the continuous rain and floods made it very difficult to grow flowers. Even after planting, the flowers were flooded and damaged."

This season, Mr. Nghiem's family had to replant dahlias and chrysanthemums three or four times before they bore fruit.

Mr. Thai Van Nghiem's family had to plant dahlias for the third time to get results.

The flower garden of Mr. Nguyen Cong Nam (Kim Chi hamlet, Nghi An commune) is in a similar situation. This year, Mr. Nam planted more than 10,000 flowers of many kinds, but 50% of them were severely damaged by floods.

Not only Mr. Nghiem and Mr. Nam's families suffered from rotten and flooded flowers, but many traditional flower-growing households in Nghi An, Nghi Kim, and Nghi Lien communes were also worried because of the continuous flooding this year. Faced with this reality, many households even had to pour sand and soil into the yard to plant flowers, waiting for the weather to clear completely before daring to bring the flowers out to the garden to plant in the beds, but this was only a temporary solution.

Although hundreds of flower trees have been damaged by floods, traditional flower growers on the outskirts of Vinh city still take good care of their flower gardens every day in the hope that this year the flowers will bloom in time to serve customers during Tet, but making a profit is not yet considered.
