Trump's victory urges EU to create European army

France, Germany, Italy and Spain have launched an initiative to strengthen defense cooperation among EU member states, Politico newspaper wrote.

"Four European military powers - France, Germany, Italy and Spain - want to accelerate cooperation in the defense sector amid concerns that Donald Trump, as diplomats and officials assert, will limit US participation (in ensuring security in Europe)," - the online newspaper said.

According to Politico, the issue will be discussed at a joint meeting of EU foreign and defense ministers in Brussels next Monday.

Participants at the EU meeting on Monday will approve a plan drawn up by the EU foreign policy agency under Federica Mogherini, outlining the implementation of a new strategy for European security and defense policy. The document, called “Defensive Schengen,” will be presented to EU leaders in December.

In the words of Ms. Mogerini herself, the task is not to build a European army, but to use in military and civilian operations the EU's response potential - "battle groups".
