Toyota Hilux 2016 price from 697 million, compete with Ford Ranger

The new version of the pickup truck replaces the engine, adds entertainment features and safety equipment, and is sold in 3 versions.

Introduced at the Vietnam Auto Show in early October, the 2016 Toyota Hilux officially went on sale from November 1. The new pickup truck has an upgraded engine and new gearbox. The 1KD-FTV engine of the previous 3.0 version has been replaced by a 2.8-liter 1GD-FTV engine and the 2KD-FTV engine of the previous 2.5 version has been replaced by a 2.4-liter I4, DOHC 2GD-FTV engine.

In Vietnam, the leading pickup truck segment is currently the Ford Ranger. In addition to the Ranger, the Hilux also has to compete with other rivals such as the Chevrolet Colorado, Mitsubishi Triton, Isuzu D-Max, Mazda BT-50, and Nissan Navara.

The new GD-FTV engine uses a direct fuel injection system, turbocharger combined with intercooler. Although smaller in size than the previous generation, the new engine provides more power and torque, while being more fuel efficient. Both new engine versions meet Euro 4 emission standards, while the old version is only Euro 2. The new Hilux is also equipped with ECO and Power driving modes.

The 2.4 engine on the Hilux E produces 147 horsepower at 3,400 rpm, an increase of 5 horsepower compared to the old 2.5 engine version, and maximum torque increases from 343 Nm to 400 Nm at rpm from 1,600 to 2,000 rpm. 6-speed manual transmission.

Hilux G 2.8 has a capacity of 174 horsepower at 3,400 rpm, an increase of 13 horsepower compared to the old 3.0 version, the maximum torque also increased from 360 Nm to 450 Nm at rpm from 1,600 to 2,400 rpm. Optional manual or new 6-speed automatic transmission with sport shift mode.

In addition to the new engine, Toyota also equipped the Hilux 2016 with a single-disc DVD, 6 speakers, 7-inch touch screen, AM/FM, MP3/WMA, USB/AUX/Bluetooth connection. 3-spoke sports steering wheel, 4-way adjustment. On the Hilux 2.8, there are 2 large clocks on both sides and a 4.2-inch TFT multi-information display. 8-way power front seats on the highest-end version.

Additional safety features include a rearview camera displayed on the DVD screen on the 2.8 G version. Other equipment includes ABS, BA, EBD, VSC electronic balance system, active traction control, hill start assist, EBS emergency brake warning. Manual transmission version has 3 airbags, automatic transmission version has 7 airbags.

In addition to the 4 colors currently on sale, Toyota Vietnam has added 2 new colors including pearl white and dark red. Detailed prices for each version include Hilux E priced at 697 million, Hilux G MT priced at 806 million and Hilux G AT priced at 870 million VND.
