Launching a movement for people to denounce the production and trade of dirty food

(Baonghean.vn) – That is one of the conclusions of comrade Nguyen Xuan Son – Standing Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the Provincial People's Council at the conference to review 5 years of implementing Directive No. 08-CT/TW dated October 21, 2011 of the Secretariat on strengthening the Party's leadership on food safety (FS) in the new situation, held on November 8, in Vinh City.

The conference was chaired by comrades: Nguyen Xuan Son - Standing Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the Provincial People's Council; Le Minh Thong - Member of the Provincial Party Committee Standing Committee, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee; Ho Phuc Hop - Member of the Provincial Party Committee Standing Committee, Head of the Provincial Party Committee's Propaganda Department.

Attending the conference were members of the Provincial Party Standing Committee, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, representatives of leaders of departments, branches, districts, cities and towns in the province.

Comrade Nguyen Xuan Son - Standing Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the Provincial People's Council stated: All levels and sectors need to include food safety criteria in socio-economic indicators and consider this as a criterion for emulation classification.

Implementing Directive 08, Nghe An has promptly deployed and disseminated the contents of the directive; developed action programs and issued many specific policies and mechanisms. After 5 years of implementation, Party committees and authorities at all levels have paid attention, led and directed quite regularly and gradually effectively the work of ensuring food safety. State management of food safety continues to be consolidated and strengthened.

The number of mass poisoning cases has gradually decreased, the origin of risky foods has been traced, timely control measures have been taken, and effective control has been implemented. From 2012 to 2015, in the province there were only 35 cases of food poisoning, 818 people were infected and 12 people died.

Implementing Directive 08, Nghe An has had many positive changes in food safety, especially in inspection and detection of violations.

Many targets set out in the Action Program of the Provincial People's Committee to implement Directive 08 were achieved and exceeded the plan. Inter-sectoral and specialized inspection of food production and trading establishments was strengthened, from 79.7% (in 2012) to 82.6% (in 2015). Many typical good factors appeared in the area.

However, the implementation of Directive 08 still has limitations, which are: Food safety propaganda work is not very effective; The efficiency and effectiveness of state management on food safety have not met the requirements; There is no safe and stable food material area to supply consumers and food service establishments, collective kitchens...

At the conference, delegates delivered speeches with the following contents: The leadership and direction role of Vinh City Party Committee in implementing Directive 08-CT/TW; Some results and experiences in building and replicating the model of safe agricultural production in Quynh Luu district; Difficulties, obstacles, solutions and recommendations in the process of ensuring food safety in Quy Chau district; Results of leadership and direction in preventing and combating crimes of violating food safety and hygiene...

Concluding the conference, comrade Nguyen Xuan Son - Standing Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the Provincial People's Council stated: Food safety is a concern and a common responsibility of everyone. The reason for the loss of food safety is due to the leadership and direction not being commensurate with reality, not meeting the requirements, and the people's awareness of food safety is not adequate.

At the same time, food safety criteria must be included in socio-economic indicators, becoming annual assessment and classification criteria. In management work, there must be no overlap or omission, and responsibilities must be clearly assigned and attention must be paid to training to improve food safety knowledge for officials; and clean food supply chains must be established...
