Ricky Martin - the moment of public homosexuality

Six years after she cried and wrote the words admitting her true gender, the singer of "The Cup of Life" has decided to get married.

Ricky Martin proposed to Jwan Yosef after a year of dating. The handsome singer could not hide his happiness when sharing the good news with host Ellen DeGeneres recently. His two eight-year-old twins also supported Ricky's decision.

In a 2013 interview with GQ Australia, Ricky Martin spoke about his homophobic past as a child. "I was angry. I looked at gay men and thought, I don't want to be like them. That's not me. I felt ashamed."

From the age of four or five, Ricky Martin felt that he was different but tried to ignore it. "For many years, I tried to pretend that I was someone else because I grew up in a very conservative, religious world and culture. My religion reminded me that my feelings and attraction to another man were wrong and evil," he told Oprah Winfrey in a 2010 interview.

At 21, Ricky Martin fell in love with a man for the first time, so deeply that he wanted to give up his career to live anonymously. "I wanted to leave everything behind and go to Europe or Asia. I was ready to give up my career. It felt great. But he advised me not to do that. My life's mission was to change many people. He didn't want me to blame him later."

He described that period of time, everything drove him crazy. Looking back, Ricky Martin affirmed to Latin Post: "I am gay. I am not bisexual."

I'm both a mother and a father and I'm trying to do the best I can. They should be proud, go out and say they have the best family," Ricky Martin said about the moment he decided to publicly come out.

In 2010, Ricky Martin sat alone in his studio, tears streaming down his face as he wrote heartfelt messages to his fans. He described to Oprah Winfrey: "When I pressed the send button, I suddenly felt a sense of peace. My assistant came in and I started crying like a baby because I felt free, liberated. I could finally say that I completely love myself."

After going public, Ricky Martin was in a relationship with Carlos González Abella, before announcing their split in 2014. In April, he revealed his relationship with Jwan Yosef, a Syrian-born artist who is based in London, England. The famous singer has always dreamed of getting married in the near future because he believes that marriage is an important thing in everyone's life.
