"The New World is a very important film, the first masterpiece of cinema of the 21st century and charted a new path for the seventh art. Eyes Wide Shut is a masterpiece of master Stanley Kubrick. AndThe Dreamers has some very good language. It can be considered a good film, with a 'fresh' quality about youth and maturity but not a masterpiece.French filmmaker of Vietnamese origin shares.
The New World is set in the 17th century and tells the story of a Native American princess and a sailor who has been banished by the British crown. The story is an epic poem about invasion, war, love and life. Director Terrence Malick has long been considered the poet of American cinema. After The New World, he returned with The Tree of Life (starring Brad Pitt) and won the Palme d'Or in 2011 at Cannes.
Meanwhile,Eyes Wide Shutis a classic film by master Stanley Kubrick, starring Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman when they were still married.Launched in 1999,The film is about a doctor husband who discovers a mystery after his wife confesses that she often has hallucinations during sex with her husband. The Dreamers is an 18+ film directed by Bernardo Bertolucci (Italy), about the growing up process of an American student studying in France in the late 1960s. The work was the launching pad for the star name Eva Green later.
Returning to Vietnam to teach in the Autumn Meeting 2016 program, director Tran Anh Hung shared that he was very happy to meet young people who are passionate about cinema. This year, the director's class had quite a number of foreign students. Of the 12 people, only four were Vietnamese, the rest were two Korean students, three from Taiwan, two from Japan and one from Singapore.
"Their cinematic thinking is like everyone else's but is in a confused stage. They have unclear thoughts about cinema, about filmmaking, about the definition of 'What is art?'. These things need to be discussed carefully to find the essence of art," he said.
In the second class, from morning to night, director Tran Anh Hung's class did not watch Eyes Wide Shut in its entirety because at each scene, the director stopped to analyze each frame, each narrative style of master director Stanley Kubrick. According to him, this method helps students better understand the language of cinema, how to "read" a film, not just simply watch it.
