Anh Son III High School: Nurturing talent in the Western region of Nghe An

Anh Son III High School was established in 1976, located on the wild land of Gia Oi hamlet, Hoi Son commune with the name of Anh Son Work-Study School (VH-VL). In the early days of its establishment, Anh Son Work-Study School only had 11 staff and teachers, Mr. Nguyen Van Anh was the Principal; the facilities included classrooms made of bamboo, with 4 classes and 188 students.

The school is a work-study school, so it is not included in the high school system managed by the Department and the Ministry of Education. Management and operation face many difficulties. Each cadre and teacher is like a soldier who has just opened the land, built, and paved the way to the school, and enlightened the people in the northern part of the district. It is in the difficult times that the solidarity between colleagues, teachers and students has been strengthened, adding motivation for the school to develop.

Since 1980, Anh Son Cultural and Sports School moved to Dinh Son commune. The journey continued with new difficulties in building classrooms, opening schools, and recruiting students in the semi-mountainous area. During this time, Mr. Nguyen Viet Nghiem was the Principal. With the help of the locality and parents, the school was able to build spacious classrooms from a makeshift thatched house. The school recruited students from 6 communes in the West of Anh Son district: Tam Son, Dinh Son, Cam Son, Thanh Son, Binh Son, Tho Son and Bai Phu Farm. In the first school year of 1980-1981 in the new area, the school had 12 classes consisting of 3 blocks. However, in the late 80s, the number of students continued to decrease.

In the 1990-1991 school year, the total number of students in the school was only 67, with a shortage of students and an excess of teachers. In this situation, the leaders of the Education sector and the leaders of Anh Son district decided to merge Dinh Son Secondary School with Anh Son Cultural and Sports School and name it Anh Son Secondary and High School 3. From the 1991-1992 school year, the Department of Education and Training appointed Mr. Nguyen Ba Ty - a Math teacher, as Principal. In 1996, the first 3-storey building of the school was started to be built, including 18 classrooms and the following year, the 2-storey administrative building was also built.

With the spirit of continuing innovation, the secondary school was handed over to Dinh Son commune. The school management task from the 2007-2008 school year until now is taken on by teacher Phan Dinh An. The school is located in a new area with low education level and difficult roads. Every year, about 300 students have to stay in rented accommodation. The school's teaching staff is mostly young, working from outside the district, so there is a lack of accommodation and living conditions. During this period, the number of students continuously decreased, the number of classes shrank every year, creating local surpluses and shortages in each subject.

To meet the requirements of the new context, the school's leadership always focuses on the key factors of the quality of the teaching staff and facilities. From that orientation, the school focuses all resources to promote the overall development of the educational movement in all fields. The school's facilities are invested, the school's appearance gradually changes every year. The school currently has 2 high-rise buildings and continues to be built; meeting enough classrooms, practice rooms, and subject rooms to serve teaching and learning activities.

At the beginning of the 2016-2017 school year, the school received investment from the Ministry of Education and Training to build an additional 2-storey building with 6 standard classrooms. From the annual socialized education source, the school has also gradually renovated and built new classrooms, restored the green trees and stadium system... Thanks to that, the school's infrastructure system increasingly meets the needs of teaching and learning, with a system of experimental practice for Physics, Chemistry, Biology, 1 Foreign Language classroom, 2 IT practice rooms, purchased a modern water filtration system, providing safe and sufficient filtered water for students...

After more than 40 years of construction and development, the school's staff and teachers have continuously grown in both quantity and quality. Currently, the school has 100% of teachers who meet training standards, 15 teachers have master's degrees above the standard. The school's staff and teachers are always dedicated, have been working day and night to contribute to improving people's knowledge and nurturing human resources in the Western region of Anh Son.

From the 2006-2007 school year, the school had no excellent students, but now this rate has increased to over 11%; the rate of promotion to the next grade is over 95%; the graduation rate is from 57% - 100%. The school has many students who have won high prizes in the provincial excellent student competition and medals in physical education and sports. The school has given wings to many generations of students to grow up and become officers, doctors, teachers, engineers, managers in the fields of economics, politics, military, culture, and society in many regions of the country.

The achievements of the school over the past 40 years are a testament to the unity and joint efforts of the teachers, staff and students. Over the years, the school has regularly received attention, guidance and support from Party committees at all levels, authorities, departments and unions at all levels, and the Department of Education and Training. This is a great encouragement for teachers and students of the school to continue to strive to better fulfill their assigned tasks; continue to write more pages of tradition and pride in the educational movement of Nghe An.
