Highland Fragrance Festival in Hanoi 2016

The festival has the participation of 10 provinces and cities with many activities recreating the typical cultural features of ethnic groups in the northern highlands.

On the evening of November 21, the 2016 "Highland Fragrance in Hanoi" Festival opened at the Vietnam Cultural and Art Exhibition Center, No. 2 Hoa Lu, Hanoi. This is an activity to celebrate Vietnam Cultural Heritage Day (November 23), promoting and honoring the cultural heritage of ethnic communities in the northern highlands.

This year's "Highland Flavors in Hanoi" festival has 10 provinces and cities participating, with many rich and attractive activities, recreating the typical cultural features of ethnic groups in the Northern highlands.

The highland market was arranged in miniature with ethnic costumes, scenes of going to the market, selling fabrics, carrying baskets, selling agricultural products. The art program and performance of ethnic costumes were recreated through excerpts of some festivals such as: Wedding ceremony of the Red Dao ethnic group in Tuyen Quang and Lao Cai provinces; Cap sac ceremony of the San Diu people in Vinh Phuc province; exchange to learn about "Highland beauty" and "Northwest Xoe circle" ...

In particular, in the festival space, the Tay ethnic stilt house in Thai Nguyen province was restored, recreating the daily activities and identities of ethnic people.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Thanh Hai, head of Thai Hai village, Thinh Duc commune, Thai Nguyen city, said that Thai Hai village has a strong cultural identity of the Tay people in Thai Nguyen.

“The tangible culture includes the 24-pillar house of the Tay people with the unique architecture of Thai Nguyen stilt houses and all the living utensils. The intangible culture that the Tay people bring to the “Fragrance of the Highlands” festival is ancient Then melodies such as Then worshiping the mother, Then festival, Then praying for the harvest…”, Ms. Hai said.

At this year's festival, Mr. Vuong Duy Bien, Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism affirmed: "The festival "Fragrance and colors of the highlands in Hanoi" is a meaningful cultural and artistic activity to respond to and honor the unique tangible and intangible cultural heritage values ​​of the ethnic communities in the northern highlands on the occasion of Vietnam Cultural Heritage Day.

Through that, it aims to promote and raise awareness of cultural heritage, highland tourism, sense of responsibility and role of each individual in preserving and promoting the values ​​of national culture.

“Vietnam has a unified yet diverse cultural identity of 54 ethnic groups. The festival, although just a small picture of the ethnic groups in the North, with about 10 ethnic groups, is very rich. Right in Hanoi, there is a space for ethnic communities, festival activities and spiritual cultural activities are valuable opportunities for the capital's public to learn about the traditional cultural beauty of the northern mountainous provinces,” Deputy Minister Vuong Duy Bien stated.

The 2016 “Highland Fragrance in Hanoi” festival will take place until November 23. On this occasion, the Vietnam Cultural Heritage Association and the Vietnam Inland Waterways Administration have also coordinated with the Vietnam Cultural and Art Exhibition Center to organize the art photo exhibition “Vietnamese Rivers 2016”./.
