Applying new production methods, sugarcane yield reaches 100 tons/ha

Mr. Truong Van Thuy in Thanh Tra hamlet, Tan Xuan commune, said: His family has 18 sao of sugarcane land in a high-income sugarcane field. Thanks to planting the new sugarcane variety KK2 and applying new production methods: deep plowing, double row planting, combining new varieties, and proper fertilization, the sugarcane is not affected by grass shoot disease, the sugarcane grows well, and the sugarcane yield is estimated at over 80 tons/ha. With such yield, sugarcane growers earn a profit of 45 - 50 million VND/ha.
Ms. Phan Thi Ngu - an agricultural officer in charge of Tan Xuan commune said: in the 2015 - 2016 sugarcane crop, the locality planted KK2 and Viet Duong sugarcane varieties, along with support from 3-milling tillage machines to plant 50 hectares of concentrated sugarcane in Thanh Tra field. Due to proper fertilization and proper care, the estimated yield is 80 - 100 tons/ha, while previously, this field only produced 50 tons/ha of sugarcane. In particular, due to double-row planting (rows are more sparse than single-row planting), people also intercropped some short-term crops, earning over 10 million VND/ha.

It is known that in addition to building high-yield sugarcane fields, Tan Ky district also built 30 intensive sugarcane farming models, each model from 0.5 hectares or more, aiming to increase productivity and income for sugarcane growers, gradually increase sugarcane output, and create a sustainable source of raw materials for factories in the area.
