Russia could direct its nuclear weapons at any NATO entity anywhere, in response to the Alliance's aggressive actions and NATO's efforts to draw more and more new countries into the bloc.

That was the statement of Franz Klintsevich, First Deputy Chairman of the Defense and Security Committee of the Federation Council of Russia.

"In response to NATO's aggressive actions and the Alliance's attempts to 'redraw its trajectory with new countries,' the Russian Federation has responded firmly and consistently."

"We will aim our weapons, including nuclear weapons, at any NATO target that threatens us, no matter where that target is located," the senator told reporters.

Klintsevich clarified to Sputnik that "when we talk about nuclear weapons, we are talking about nuclear warheads that can be placed on delivery vehicles from fixed or mobile stations at sea, in the air, and on land."

On January 22, Dmitry Peskov, press secretary to the Russian President, stated that Russia is doing everything it deems necessary to defend itself amid NATO's expansion towards Russia's borders.
