On November 23, a source from the Ben Tre provincial police said that the police of Ba Tri and Binh Dai districts had arrested a suspect who specialized in extorting property from children. The suspect is Pham Thi Thuy, 42 years old, residing in Giong Queo hamlet, An Ngai Tay commune, Ba Tri district.

At the police station, Thuy confessed that at noon on November 22, while riding a motorbike from Ba Tri district to Binh Dai district, passing through Binh Chien hamlet, she saw Kim Vo Quang Nhut (8 years old) holding a cell phone, and Thuy had the intention of taking it.

Thuy stopped the car and said that Nhut's mother's friend had come to take him out. Trusting her, Nhut agreed to get in the car and Thuy drove him to a nearby coffee shop. There, Thuy borrowed Nhut's phone and told him to wait at the shop. After getting the phone, Thuy got in the car and escaped.

Seeing their child missing, Nhut's family reported it to the police.

Using professional measures, Ba Tri district police coordinated with Binh Dai district police to capture Pham Thi Thuy when the suspect was hiding in a house in Ba Tri district, and also found Nhut.

In 2008, using similar tricks, Thuy committed many frauds to take property from students and was sentenced to 8 years in prison by the People's Court of Giong Trom district, Ben Tre province, completing the sentence in May 2016.

According to Mr. Le Van Chin - Deputy Director of the Department of Education and Training of Ben Tre, at the end of August and in September 2016, in the two districts of Giong Trom and Ba Tri, there were 8 cases of bad guys appearing at noon in the area of ​​elementary schools, luring female students into cars to meet relatives and robbing them of jewelry.

Police are continuing to investigate whether Pham Thi Thuy is involved in the above incidents.
