Kia has just released a teaser video introducing a new model called Kia GT, using a V6 engine, with a maximum speed of 244 km/h.

Kia is ready to unveil its latest sports sedan, likely to be called the Kia GT, and has already begun marketing the new model, which is expected to debut at the 2017 Detroit Motor Show.

Kia's new car is a four-door coupe, with styling similar to the 2011 Kia GT concept car. It will be Kia's top-of-the-line model, sold globally, including in demanding markets like the UK.

Former BMW M chief engineer Albert Biermann, now Hyundai's chief, played a key role in developing the new sports sedan's chassis. Rumors suggest the Kia GT will be based on a shortened version of the Hyundai Genesis G80 and G90 platform.

A V6 petrol engine is likely to be offered on the Kia GT, with a diesel option available in some European markets, including the UK. The US and the Middle East are expected to be the biggest markets for the new car.

A smaller four-cylinder petrol engine is also likely to be deployed, and a high-end V8 version is not ruled out. In addition, the headlights and grille on the Kia GT are improved similar to the new Kia Sportage.

The GT styling was spearheaded by Kia’s design chief, former Audi man Peter Schreyer. Images of the production Kia GT have leaked recently, and we’re hoping to see the new Kia sedan on the road by the end of 2017.
