Thousands of elderly people get free eye exams

(Baonghean.vn) - From November 22 to December 13, 2016, the Association of the Elderly, Tan Ky District Medical Center in collaboration with the Department of Ophthalmology - Nghe An General Hospital organized free eye screening for the elderly in 16/22 communes and towns (except Phu Son, Tien Ky, Dong Van, Huong Son, Tan Hop and Tan Long communes) in Tan Ky district.

At the health stations, the elderly come to be examined by a team of doctors and nurses who investigate the rate of blindness, and advise on knowledge of prevention and treatment of some eye diseases, such as: glaucoma, dry eyes, macular degeneration, etc. For cases where patients are diagnosed with cataracts, they will be consulted and guided for treatment at the Provincial General Hospital and specialized eye hospitals at the provincial level.

At the first 4 medical stations that were examined this morning in Ky Son, Ky Tan, Nghia Dung communes and Tan Ky town, the number of patients coming to the program was larger than expected. By 9:00 a.m., there were nearly 1,000 cases that had drawn numbers to be screened for eye diseases.

On this occasion, the medical team also provided essential medicines and provided instructions on eye care to medical staff at the stations.
