"There was a broad exchange of views," Mr. Peskov, Mr. Putin's press secretary, said in response to a question about whether the Kremlin had received clarifications on Türkiye's position in relation to Syria.
In addition, the two sides discussed Russian-Turkish relations, including upcoming contacts in bilateral relations at various levels. Earlier, while speaking at a symposium in Istanbul, Mr. Erdogan said that the Turkish army had launched a military operation in Syria to end the rule of President al-Assad.
The Kremlin said that the Turkish leader's words did not coincide with Moscow's position on resolving the situation in Syria and expressed hope that Ankara would explain. Later, a source in the Turkish government said that Erdogan's words "should not be taken literally."
