RIA Novosti news agency on December 27 quoted the assistant commander of the Central Military District of the Russian Federation, Colonel Yaroslav Roshupkin, as saying: "The latest Pantsir-S1 anti-aircraft missile and artillery complexes have been brought to Novosibirsk to enhance combat duty to protect important military and industrial objects under the responsibility of the Central Military District."
Also according to the representative of the Central Military District, Pantsir-S1 will strengthen the air defense system of Western Siberia.
In mid-December, anti-aircraft gunners completed a live-fire test program at the Ashuluk training ground in the Astrakhan region.
"There has been a march of about 4,000 km by train. In the area of execution of the mission, the technical work continues," said Colonel Yaroslav Roshupkin.
The Pantsir-S1 air defense missile-gun complex (NATO reporting name SA-22 Greyhound) is a short-to-medium-range gun-missile system combining a vehicle with a fire control radar and electro-optical sensor, two 30 mm 2A38M twin-barreled guns and 12 57E6 low-altitude air defense missiles.
Dubbed the “beast”, Pantsir-S1 is designed to detect and destroy all airborne targets such as aircraft, helicopters, guided bombs or ballistic missiles flying at altitudes from 5m to 15km within a range of 200m to 20km in just 5 seconds.
