Speaking at the meeting, President Tran Dai Quang stated that exactly 37 years ago, a major event took place in the brotherly country of Cambodia: On January 7, 1979, the capital Phnom Penh was liberated and after 25 days, all cities, towns and townships in Cambodia were completely liberated. The Cambodian revolutionary forces led by the Kampuchean United Front for National Salvation coordinated and fought closely with the Vietnamese Volunteer Army to overthrow the brutal Pol Pot - leng sary genocidal regime, closing the dark history, bringing the Angkor country out of the genocide disaster, opening an era of revival and development for the Cambodian people.
After Cambodia was completely liberated from the genocide regime, imbued with the teaching of the great President Ho Chi Minh: "Helping friends means helping yourself", in the spirit of noble proletarian internationalism, the Party, State and people of Vietnam continued to help the brotherly Cambodian people rebuild the country from the ashes caused by the genocide; sending Vietnamese experts to help friends in the fields of politics, economics, culture, education, health, society, national defense, security... from the central to the grassroots levels.
“The sacrifices of our former experts are very valuable. Vietnamese volunteer soldiers and experts have not been afraid of hardships and sacrifices, shared joys and sorrows, and stood shoulder to shoulder to help the Cambodian revolution in the cause of building, protecting, restoring and developing the country. The heroic feats, outstanding achievements, great contributions and sacrifices of Vietnamese volunteer soldiers and experts for the Cambodian revolution have been respected, recognized, highly appreciated by the Cambodian State and people as well as the Party, State and people of Vietnam, and have been awarded many noble awards and titles,” the President emphasized.
