Blood Donation Club of Vinh Medical University received the National Volunteer Award in 2016

(Baonghean.vn) - Over the past 11 years, the name of the Vinh Medical University Voluntary Blood Donation Club with the slogan "Donate blood to save people - happy smiles" has been known for many meaningful activities. The number of volunteers has increased rapidly from 100 to 1,500 people. On the occasion of the Club's birthday on December 3, the Voluntary Blood Donation Club was honored to receive the 2016 National Volunteer Award.

The Vinh Medical University Voluntary Blood Donation Club was established in November 2005.

Over the years, the Club has received timely support and assistance from the Student Union, the Youth Union of Vinh Medical University and the enthusiastic response of a large number of youth union members. Along with organizing propaganda activities and mobilizing humanitarian blood donation in the community, the Club's members and volunteers are also the core of the "Living Blood Bank", always ready to donate blood voluntarily to emergency patients at hospitals when needed. With the motto "I am for everyone, everyone is for me" and the slogan "Donate blood to save people - happy smiles", the number of students participating in blood donation and the number of times participating in blood donation is increasing.

Typical blood donation programs organized by the Club include "Red Volunteer Day", "Sharing Blood - Giving Hope", "Each Drop of Blood Donated, a Life Remains", "Pink Spring Festival", "Pink Drops Welcome Spring", "Sharing Blood - Full of Love for the Sea and Islands", "World Blood Donor Day", "VMU Youth Day", "Summer of Charity"...

Donating blood to save lives is a noble act, and the members of the Voluntary Blood Donation Club are the pioneers in spreading that meaning.

After 11 years of establishment, the Vinh Medical University Voluntary Blood Donation Club has organized more than 90 blood donation programs. Every year, the Club mobilizes 5-6 blood donation campaigns, collecting nearly 2,000 units, contributing a part to the reserve of the Nghe An Provincial Hematology and Blood Transfusion Center.

"Happiness is when seeing patients receive blood and overcome critical conditions. The words of thanks are simply hugs or tight handshakes from the patient's family, but they are also full of meaning, motivating us, future doctors, to practice our health, cultivate our expertise to become good medical staff" - Pham Quoc Hoi, Head of the Voluntary Blood Donation Club shared.

The club participates in the Exam Support Program every year.

In addition to voluntary blood donation activities, the Club also organizes and implements many community programs and activities such as giving Mid-Autumn gifts to children being treated at the Cardiovascular, Respiratory, and Digestive and Hematology Department of Nghe An Obstetrics and Pediatrics Hospital; charity fundraising activities such as selling flowers, cards, scrap metal, etc.; the charity program "Warm Spring for Humanity" at Leprosy Village; the Exam Support Program; the 60+ program; cultural and sports exchanges... At the same time, the Club also organizes training for students on voluntary blood donation, and organizes competitions to learn about voluntary blood donation.

With its contributions to volunteer activities and student movements, the Vinh Medical University Voluntary Blood Donation Club has continuously received certificates of merit from the Central Committee of the Youth Union, the Central Committee of the Vietnam Student Association, and Nghe An Provincial Youth Union. And the 2016 National Volunteer Award is a worthy reward for the group of young people who always bring benefits to the community and build noble human values ​​in society.

The National Volunteer Award is an annual award organized by the Central Committee of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union in coordination with the United Nations Volunteer Program, presented to individuals and volunteer organizations with outstanding contributions and achievements in volunteer work for the community, contributing to the cause of building and defending the Fatherland. The National Volunteer Center is the permanent unit in charge of organizing the annual National Volunteer Award.

The 2016 National Volunteer Awards honor and award 10 organizations and 10 individuals with outstanding contributions and achievements in volunteer work for the community, contributing to the cause of building and defending the Fatherland and sustainable development in Vietnam in 2016.
