Government Inspectorate recommends investigating illegal Tet gift giving

The Government Inspectorate requested ministries, branches and localities to strictly implement the policy of prohibiting giving Tet gifts to superiors in any form.

Mr. Pham Trong Dat - Director of the Anti-Corruption Department (Government Inspectorate) - has just signed a document to send to ministries, localities, ministerial-level agencies under the Government, state-owned economic groups, etc. requesting to grasp the situation and report on giving and receiving gifts that are not in accordance with regulations during the Dinh Dau New Year 2017.

According to this document, on December 20, the Central Party Secretariat issued Directive No. 11/CT-TW, which requires: "Strictly implement the policy of prohibiting giving Tet gifts to superiors in any form... Strengthen inspection, promptly prevent negative manifestations and strictly handle organizations and individuals who violate the use of budget, means and public assets against regulations for Tet and festival activities".

Previously, on December 17, the Prime Minister issued Directive No. 33/CT-TTg, requiring state agencies to thoroughly grasp and strictly implement the directive not to congratulate or give gifts to leaders; localities should not return to Hanoi to congratulate the Government and ministries.

The Government Inspectorate requests ministries, branches and localities to implement and direct affiliated agencies, organizations and units to seriously implement the above regulations of the Party and the Prime Minister.

At the same time, monitor, grasp the situation, promptly detect, handle and report cases of giving and receiving gifts in violation of regulations during the Lunar New Year, and wasteful use of public assets. No later than February 6, 2017, units must summarize and report the handling results to the Government Inspectorate.
