Chinese tourists to Vietnam are at an unprecedented high.
According to data from the General Statistics Office, international visitors to Vietnam in December were estimated at 897,300, up 17.9% over the same period last year.
In 2016, international visitors to Vietnam were estimated at 10.01 million, up 26% over the previous year, equivalent to an increase of more than 2 million visitors.

Of which, visitors from Asia reached 7.26 million arrivals, accounting for 72.5% and increasing 30.6% over the previous year.
In particular, visitors from China reached 2.7 million, an increase of 51.4%, accounting for the largest number in the structure of international visitors to Vietnam.
This is a record increase in visitors from China ever.
Last year, the number of Chinese tourists to Vietnam dropped significantly, with only 1.7 million arrivals, a decrease of more than 200,000 people compared to 2014.
Data from the General Statistics Office over the past five years shows that each year the number of Chinese tourists to Vietnam accounts for 20-25% of the total number of international visitors. This is the largest group of tourists to Vietnam.
Also this year, visitors to Vietnam from Europe reached 1.6 million, an increase of 18.2% over the previous year.
Visitors from the Americas reached 735,100 arrivals, up 13.5% compared to 2015, of which visitors from the US reached 552,700 arrivals, up 12.5%.
Visitors from Australia reached 368,300, up 7.9%. Visitors from Africa reached 28,500, up 5.2% compared to 2015.
"In 2016, with policies and efforts to attract tourists implemented such as visa exemption for citizens of 5 Western European countries, strengthening tourism promotion and advertising, applying e-marketing technology, implementing tourism promotion programs on television, media, and mass media, for the first time Vietnam welcomed over 10 million international visitors, twice the number of international visitors to our country in 2010," said the General Statistics Office.
