Leicester lose first match in Champions League
Coach Claudio Ranieri and his team suffered a 0-5 defeat at Porto's home ground in the final round of the group stage last night, December 7.
This is the worst result for an English team in Champions League history. Having already qualified, Claudio Ranieri made 10 changes to Leicester's starting line-up. Meanwhile, Porto need a win to ensure their place in the next round.
Andre Silva opened the scoring for the home team in the sixth minute with a header from a corner kick. Twenty minutes later, Jesus Corona comfortably volleyed into the Leicester net. Before the end of the first half, Yacine Brahimi made it 3-0 for the home team with a skillful backheel.
In the second half, Andre Silva completed his double in the 64th minute. The Portuguese international converted a penalty after Danny Drinkwater was fouled in the box. Diogo Jota scored the winning goal for Porto in the 77th minute.

Having already secured their place in the group, Ranieri used a number of substitutes in this match. He left Jamie Vardy and Riyad Mahrez at home. However, Leicester did not play as the Italian coach expected. The "Foxes" suffered their first defeat in the Champions League, the arena they participated in for the first time this year. In the previous five matches, in the framework of Group G, Leicester won four and drew one.
Leicester's strikers Shinji Okazaki and Ahmed Musa put little pressure on the opposition's goal in this match. Ranieri replaced Musa with Leonardo Ulloa at half-time, but things did not improve. Leicester did not even have a single shot on target in the entire match. The most dangerous shot they created was Ulloa's shot that hit the crossbar late in the match.
