Russia remains silent on the possibility of inviting the US to participate in Syrian peace talks.

(Baonghean.vn) - On January 13, the Kremlin refused to confirm the possibility of inviting the US to participate in Syrian peace talks later this month, after Washington was excluded from its role as a mediator in the latest ceasefire agreement in the Middle Eastern country.

The previous day, Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu said Ankara and Moscow had agreed to invite Washington to the Syrian peace talks, co-hosted by the two countries, in Astana, Kazakhstan, on January 23. However, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said, "I cannot say anything at this time."

However, a Kremlin spokesperson said that Russia "wants the full participation of all parties involved in finding a political solution to the Syrian problem."

Last month, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov expressed hope that the new US administration under Donald Trump could cooperate harmoniously with Moscow to resolve the Syrian crisis.

Russia and Türkiye are also co-authors of the latest ceasefire agreement in Syria, which took effect on December 30th. Notably, Washington was not involved in the negotiations for this ceasefire. Analysts believe that the US role in the world has become dimmer than ever. It is time for the US to reconsider its strategy to regain its strength in order to maintain security and stability in the world.
