| Gul Sayed wasn't the only "outsider" in the village. Many researchers have suggested that the Kalasha people's ancestors were Alexander the Great, and therefore they inherited very Western features in this distinctly Asian place. |

| Women in the village are free to fall in love. "If we get married and the husband treats us badly or refuses to work, we can leave and choose someone else," Gul said. Two teenage girls standing next to Gul smiled shyly and nodded in agreement. |
