Middle East Situation: Actions Speak Louder Than Words
The meeting between the leaders of Türkiye, Iran and Russia in Moscow is bad news for most US diplomats. By joining the "troika" of countries involved in the peace process in Syria, Ankara shows Washington that it is turning to Moscow, The Washington Post wrote.

The murder of the Russian ambassador to Türkiye was intended to drive a wedge between Moscow and Ankara, but this criminal act, on the contrary, accelerated the rapprochement between the two countries, the article notes. However, the Russian-Turkish alliance is not a surprise to analysts.
According to a former member of the Turkish parliament who now works with the Ike Erdemir Foundation for the Defense of Democracies, Russia, Iran and Türkiye have been preparing for closer cooperation for a long time. "Erdogan believes that actions speak louder than words in the Middle East, and he realizes that Washington cannot be relied on," the expert stressed.
The meeting in Moscow took place after it became clear that US Secretary of State John Kerry's plan for a comprehensive settlement of the situation in Syria had failed. The leaders of the "troika" reached a common understanding that regime change in Syria cannot be a priority for the peace process.
According to the joint statement between Moscow, Tehran and Ankara, it must be based on respect for Syria's sovereignty, territorial integrity and political pluralism, as well as the fight against terrorism. "This is a great statement. It is the complete opposite of what Türkiye has been saying since 2011. In fact, this means that Turkey recognizes Assad...", Icahn Erdemir said.
