Three stars, Ronaldo, Murray, and Bolt, are on the shortlist for the 2017 Laureus Award.

Ronaldo, Murray, and Bolt, three sports figures who won numerous prestigious titles in 2016, are now on the verge of receiving the prestigious Laureus Award for the best male athlete of 2017.

Ronaldo has a great chance of becoming the best male athlete of 2017.

With two prestigious titles in the Champions League and Euro 2016, Cristiano Ronaldo won all three of the biggest individual awards of 2016: "European Player of the Year" (UEFA), "Ballon d'Or" (France Football), and "World's Best Male Player" (FIFA), and he is now in a strong position to win another prestigious title: the Laureus 2017.

Besides Ronaldo, there are five other candidates on the list: Andy Murray (tennis), Usain Bolt, Mo Farah (athletics), Steph Curry and LeBron James (basketball).

Just like Ronaldo, all of these athletes had a successful year, and whoever won the title deserved it. This includes Murray, the tennis player who reached world number one, won one Grand Slam title, and became an Olympic champion in 2016, and Usain Bolt, the "Lightning Bolt," with three Olympic gold medals, making him the track and field athlete with the most Olympic gold medals.

The Laureus Awards, founded by Laureus Sport in 1999, honor the best individuals and teams of the previous year, with awards presented the following year based on media evaluations. In addition to the "Best Male Athlete of the Year" award, the Laureus Awards also have four other categories: Best Female Athlete of the Year, Best Team of the Year, Best Comeback of the Year, and Best Breakthrough of the Year.

The athlete holding the record for most titles is Roger Federer with 4 consecutive wins (2005 to 2008), followed by Usain Bolt and Djokovic with 3 wins each.

The award has never gone to a football player, and Ronaldo now has a great opportunity to become the first player to win the 2017 Male Athlete of the Year award.

The results will be announced on February 14th in Monaco, France.
