(Baonghean.vn) - On the morning of the second day of Tet, traders in some markets reopened to serve people's needs. "Buy salt at the beginning of the year, buy lime at the end of the year" is a Vietnamese custom in the new year, so this year, at markets and grocery stores, people sell a lot of salt and lighters.

At the gate of Hung Dung market, Vinh city, people do not gather in the market hall but sell right on the roadside. The items for sale are not as diverse as usual but mainly focus on some vegetables, tubers, fresh foods such as grass carp, beef, tofu...

Ms. Nguyen Thi Giang in Van Tien block, Hung Dung ward said that every year she prepares a lot of food, but because the market opens on the second day of Tet, she learned from experience and did not stock up much this year. "Today I bought some more fish, beef, and vegetables for my family and relatives to gather around the hot pot at the beginning of the year" - Ms. Giang shared.

Currently, the number of shoppers at the markets is not much. The selling prices of goods are higher than usual, but lower than before Tet. Fresh shrimp is expensive, 500,000 VND/kg; Beef is priced at 300,000 VND/kg, 20,000 VND/kg more expensive than before Tet, and much higher than usual (normally about 210,000 - 230,000 VND/kg).

Prices of some vegetables and fruits increased slightly: tomatoes 20,000-25,000 VND/kg, kohlrabi 16,000-20,000 VND/kg, cauliflower 20,000-35,000 VND/kg, mustard greens 5,000 VND/bunch.

However, the prices of fruits, flowers, especially betel and areca nuts, remain quite high. Chrysanthemums are 7,000 VND/flower, areca nuts are 15,000 VND/fruit.

The ancients believed that salt brings good luck to the family and wishes for a smooth and prosperous economy, so in grocery stores, markets, etc., people sell salt. In addition to salt, there is also a gas lighter because according to traditional beliefs, fire brings warmth and happiness to the family.
