Former soldier twice started a farm to get rich
(Baonghean.vn) - The cold rains of late winter cover the Chan stream (Tan Xuan, Tan Ky) in a silvery color. In the biting cold, people still see Mr. Tran Van Thuan and his wife working hard on their family's farm of more than 3 hectares. Currently, his family earns nearly 1 billion VND per year, but few people know that on this very land, Mr. Thuan and his wife had to start a business twice.

With a yield of 70 tons/ha/crop, each year Mr. Tran Van Thuan's family earns a net profit of more than 40 million VND from 1.5 hectares of sugarcane. |
Born in 1963, a son of the coastal region of Dien Chau, in 1987, after being discharged from the army, Tran Van Thuan returned to his hometown, then with his family went to the mountains of Tan Xuan and Tan Ky to reclaim land and start a business according to the new economic policy of the State. At that time, Khe Chan was a desolate area, with overlapping mountains and forests.
At first, Mr. Thuan only built a small hut to have a place to go in and out. Then he started digging the land, reclaiming the land to grow cassava and raise cows. The cassava area when first planted was only a few sao, the yield was not enough to buy rice. However, he still did not give up. Admiring the determination of the former soldier, a gentle girl in the area, Tran Thi Tam, decided to join hands with him to overcome poverty.

By 2002, Mr. Thuan and his wife's farm had a total herd of dozens of goats and cows and was granted a farm certificate by the province. It was also the first farm in the Tan Xuan area.
However, since 2003, to treat infertility, the couple had to pack up and go to large and small hospitals across the country. After nearly 10 years of treatment, their desire to become parents finally came true, but the couple fell into a situation of heavy debt.
The couple started over again and considered it their second business. While taking care of their young children, they also sought ways to restore and expand the farm. In particular, as livestock and crop farming developed on a large scale, the need for irrigation water became greater, so the family boldly invested in a 600m underground water supply system to bring water from Chan well to the farm.

The land does not fail the people, up to now, Mr. Thuan and his wife's farm has nearly 20 cows, 30 goats, hundreds of chickens and 20 pigs. Regarding cultivation, the family has more than 1.5 hectares of sugarcane, 0.5 hectares of cassava and a large area for growing grass for livestock.
It is worth mentioning that his farm is always at the forefront of applying science and technology. Mr. Thuan is a pioneer in the program of improving and enhancing the quality of cattle herds, and was chosen by the locality to raise Sind crossbred cattle.

The advantage of this breed of cow is that after only 5 months, the calves can be sold for 18 to 20 million VND/head, an increase of 7 million VND/head compared to traditional yellow cows. Therefore, the income from here is very stable.
For chickens and pigs, in addition to full vaccination, the family also builds cages with biological bedding so that they grow healthily and save costs to the maximum. For crops, he also conducts experimental planting of new varieties such as pepper, dragon fruit...
As for goats, this is an easygoing animal with abundant food sources. The time for young goats to mature and reproduce is only from 7 to 12 months, reaching a weight of 30-35kg/head, with some adults weighing nearly 45kg. With a selling price of over 120,000 VND/kg, it brings in tens of millions of VND for each family.
