Severe burns, blindness... due to setting off firecrackers 'for Tet'

(Baonghean.vn) - Although there has been a ban on fireworks since 1994 and authorities have warned of the dangers, many people still secretly set off fireworks during Tet, leading to heartbreaking consequences.

Dang Ba Chau (born in 1999), residing in Nghi Thach commune, Nghi Loc district, is an example. During the days before Tet, Chau scraped match powder and put it into a tube to create an explosion to play with. While doing so, the match powder caught fire, causing severe burns to his face and chest. It is known that because he learned from his friends in the neighborhood, Chau bought matches and scraped the sparking part from the tip of the match to play with. Due to carelessness and lack of awareness, the heartbreaking consequences occurred.

“I heard the news and ran home. When I saw my child like that, I fainted. I didn’t understand why my child was like that. I was taken to the hospital and they bandaged him up, but I didn’t know anything. Seeing my child covered in bandages, I collapsed,” Chau’s mother, Tran Thi Hai, recalled in shock.

Most of the victims of firecracker accidents during Tet are young people who, out of curiosity or lack of knowledge of the law, acted rashly. Nguyen Quang Cuong (born in 1990), residing in Nghi Lien Commune, Vinh City, on the night of the 30th of Tet, Cuong held a 15cm long, 5cm diameter firecracker out to his house gate to light it. While lighting the firecracker, Cuong was hit by the firecracker right in his hand and injured his left hand.

In addition to those who had accidents while preparing and setting off firecrackers, there was the case of Dang Trong Dai (born in 1992), residing in Cam Son commune, Anh Son district, who had an accident caused by firecrackers. On New Year's Eve, Dai was returning home from a party when he met a group of friends. Dai had just stopped his car when he heard a firecracker explode in front of the car. Before he could react, Dai discovered that his eye was injured. His friends and family took him to the hospital. Here, after a preliminary examination, Dai suffered quite serious eye injuries. He is currently being treated by doctors at Nghe An General Hospital.

Doctor Nguyen Thi Van Anh, Nghe An General Hospital added: Every year, the hospital has cases of people who have accidents caused by firecrackers being admitted for emergency treatment. In the case of patient Dang Trong Dai, due to the heat of the firecrackers, the patient's right eye was severely damaged, treatment took a long time, and recovery was very slow.

According to unofficial information from the Nghe An Department of Health, during the Tet holidays, hospitals in the province received more than 10 cases of injuries due to accidents related to the use of fireworks. The police forces of various units and localities have verified these cases, including 02 cases of injuries due to the explosion of hydrogen gas balloons.

Fireworks accidents continue to be a warning to those who are using or intend to use fireworks. Please comply with the law, absolutely do not participate in violations of the production, storage, and use of fireworks because the painful consequences will not spare anyone./.
