5 Samsung Group leaders will be convicted of bribery and embezzlement
Today (February 28), the Office of Special Prosecutors of South Korea said that Samsung Group Vice Chairman Lee Jae-yong and four other leaders will be convicted of bribery and embezzlement.
In addition to Mr. Lee, four Samsung leaders involved in this scandal include: Chairman Chang Choong-ki and Vice Chairman Choi Gee-sung (Samsung Group), Chairman Park Sang-jin and Vice Chairman Hwang Sung-soo (Samsung Electronics).
“Five Samsung executives will be charged with bribery, embezzlement and hiding assets overseas,” said Lee Kyu-chul, spokesman for the Special Prosecutor’s Office.

The final investigation is expected to be announced by the Korean Prosecutors' Office on March 6. A Samsung Group spokesman declined to comment on the conviction.
Lee was arrested on February 17 for his alleged involvement in a corruption scandal involving President Park Geun-hye and her close friend Choi Soon-sil. The scandal has rocked South Korean politics and led to President Park facing a series of impeachment hearings in December 2016.
Lee is accused of paying $36 million in bribes to President Park Geun-hye and her friend Choi Soon-sil to win a government power transfer. Samsung is also suspected of being the biggest donor among dozens of South Korean companies that donated nearly $70 million to two nonprofit foundations run by Choi.
