About power

When you compare Ford's 1.0-liter EcoBoost turbocharged engine to Mitsubishi's 1.2-liter naturally aspirated engine, there's a big difference in power output. While Ford's Fiesta has 123 horsepower, Mitsubishi's Mirage has just 78 horsepower.

However, with such power level, the 2017 Mirage has been increased by 4 horsepower compared to the previous version. Notably, the weight of the 2017 Mirage hatchback version has become lighter. Specifically, it is 200 pounds (~ 90.7 kg) lighter than the Spark and 500 pounds (~ 226.8 kg) lighter than the Fiesta.

Paired with the 2017 Mirage's 1.0-liter engine is a CVT transmission. That combination allows the new Mirage to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 10.9 seconds, 2 seconds slower than the Fiesta but on par with the Chevy Spark automatic.

To be fair, the reduced weight of the springs does a good job of absorbing the impact, providing a smooth ride. But this is somewhat hampered by the high noise levels in the cabin and the CVT transmission, which can cause the car to vibrate at idle.

Mitsubishi has spent a lot of money on the Mirage's styling, though, including new front and rear bumpers, lights, and new wheel rims. The interior gets a new instrument cluster, a new steering wheel, an advanced connectivity system that includes Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and new upholstery.
