Hiding drugs in cake boxes to sell, sentenced to 15 years in prison

On the morning of February 17, Nghe An Provincial People's Court opened a first-instance criminal trial to try the case of "Illegal drug trafficking" against Vu Thi Thuy Nga (born in 1971), from Hanoi, residing in Hong Son ward, Vinh city.

According to the indictment, at around 6:00 p.m. on October 13, 2016, a working group of Ha Huy Tap Ward Police (Vinh City) discovered a woman driving a motorbike on the road with suspicious signs, so they asked her to stop the vehicle for an administrative check.

Checking the vehicle, the police discovered two white powdery lumps, suspected to be heroin, in a cake box hanging on the vehicle. The suspect was identified as Vu Thi Thuy Nga. Nga confessed that she bought the drugs from an unidentified man for 20 million VND to divide and sell for profit.

The Vinh City Police Investigation Agency opened the seal, took samples for examination and determined that the twenty white compressed powder seized from Vu Thi Thuy Nga was heroin, weighing 75.41 grams.

At the trial, Vu Thi Thuy Nga admitted to the crime as stated in the indictment. The panel sentenced Nga to 15 years in prison for the above crime.
