300-year-old banyan tree recognized as Vietnamese Historical and Cultural Relic
(Baonghean.vn) - NLocated in the relic complex of Qua Son Temple, the templePhuc Hau village, hamlet 3, Lam Son commune (Do Luong) has just been recognized by the Central Committee of the Vietnam Ornamental Plants Association as a Vietnamese Historical and Cultural Relic.
The banyan tree is located in the center of Hamlet 3, right at the gate of Phuc Hau communal house, and is nearly 300 years old. The tree is about 55 meters high, with a canopy area of about 1,500 m2.2The tree trunk is very wide, it takes ten people to hug around it.
In 1930 - 1931, party member Cao Tien Khoi secretly planted the Party flag on a banyan tree, calling on compatriots to participate in the Nghe Tinh Soviet revolutionary movement.

According to the village elders, in the 18th century, Phuc Hau village built a communal house next to the banyan tree for meetings. The banyan tree was also the place where Huynh Thuc Khang school taught during the fierce war years.
During the years of resistance against French colonialism, the banyan tree associated with Phuc Hau communal house was the meeting place of the leaders of Inter-zone 4. Through two resistance wars against France and the US, the banyan tree was the place to send off thousands of young men to join the army to protect the Fatherland. In 2012, Phuc Hau communal house was recognized by the Provincial People's Committee as a provincial historical relic.

Over the years, the officials and people of Trung Hau village have taken care of and restored the trees to keep them green and lush. Also to preserve the local culture, the Qua Son Temple Festival is held at the Phuc Hau communal house, becoming a unique cultural feature./.
