(Baonghean.vn) - The authorities of Dien Yen commune (Dien Chau district) confirmed that the information about a child kidnapping incident in the commune is incorrect. The woman suspected of kidnapping showed signs of mental illness.

Previously, on February 12, a clip of more than 5 minutes appeared on social media, recording a scene of a woman about 35 years old wearing a dark sun-protection shirt, her face covered, being chased by a number of people. Some people repeatedly threatened to throw her into the river because they thought that this person was wandering around the area with the intention of kidnapping children.

The clip was posted on social media by many people with the content warning parents to pay attention to their children. This clip attracted tens of thousands of likes and shares, causing panic among people.

It is known that the above clip was recorded in the field of hamlet 16, Dien Yen commune, Dien Chau district on the afternoon of February 12. Mr. Duong Manh Hien - Deputy Head of Dien Yen Commune Police (Dien Chau) said that immediately after the incident, the local authorities were present and took the woman to the commune People's Committee headquarters for questioning.

“Checking the woman’s belongings, we found a bag of clothes and a bag of medicine inside, but there were no relevant identification documents. This person showed signs of mental illness, unable to remember her name or relatives. Only after she calmed down was she able to remember that she was from Ninh Binh,” said Mr. Hien.

According to Mr. Hien, this woman had previously appeared in Do Thanh commune (Yen Thanh district). Do Thanh commune police also organized verification, then released this woman. This woman went to Dien Yen commune and the incident happened as shown in the posted clip.

Through investigation, the person who directly chased the woman and filmed it was Mr. Tran Van Dong (19 years old, residing in Dien Yen commune). Mr. Dong was also the person who directly posted the video on social media.

On the afternoon of February 13, when summoned by the police, Mr. Tran Van Dong admitted that he accidentally encountered the woman in the field and shouted to arrest her because he saw that she looked like the character in the video "Suspicious woman kidnapping" that he had seen on social media earlier. Mr. Dong admitted that due to a misunderstanding, he had acted in a way that caused public confusion.
