“Quang Thanh and Minh Nhut’s wish is to ask the VFF to reduce their sentences so they can continue playing. Therefore, we will help them,” said the new president of Long An Club, Nguyen Mon, on the afternoon of February 22. “Currently, we do not have a specific plan. We will sit down with the players, discuss and find ways to support them legally to send an appeal to the VFF, in order to reduce the penalty to the lowest possible level.”
Yesterday, Quang Thanh and Minh Nhut received a two-year ban for their reaction during the match at Thong Nhat Stadium in round six of the 2017 V-League last weekend.Mr. Mon said that the punishment that VFF gave to the two players above is severe but not yet a deterrent. “The important thing is how effective this punishment will be. Will it make the football atmosphere in Vietnam better, and will it teach other players not to make similar mistakes?”, Mr. Mon said.
Mr. Mon previously accompanied Dong Tam Long An Club under coach Henrique Calisto. After replacing former president Vo Thanh Nhiem, he promoted assistant coach Phan Van Giau to acting coach. He also accepted the resignation of technical director Huynh Ngoc San.
The captain position of Long An Club is likely to be given to defender Huynh Tan Tai or midfielder Nguyen Tai Loc.
