Bus driver using phone while driving fired

(Baonghean.vn)- After a clip of a bus driver using his phone while driving went viral online, the driver was fired.

On the afternoon of March 1, Senior Lieutenant Dam Van Linh, an officer of the investigation team, under the Road and Railway Traffic Police Department (Nghe An Provincial Police) said that the unit had administratively fined Nguyen Canh Loc (born in 1973, residing in Do Luong town) for using a mobile phone while driving on the road, according to Decree 46/2016.

For this violation, Mr. Loc was forced to pay a fine of 700,000 VND. However, his driver's license was not suspended.

According to the investigation agency, a video of more than 2 minutes was previously shared on social media with the content of a bus driver using his mobile phone while driving. Upon verification, the traffic police force of Nghe An province identified the driver in the video as Nguyen Canh Loc, a driver of Tan Phuong Thao Bus Company.

Summoned to the police, driver Loc admitted that he was the driver in the video. The male driver stated that at 11:30 a.m. on February 18, 2017, he was driving a bus with license plate 37B - 014.41 on the route from Do Luong district to Vinh city. When the bus was running on National Highway 1A to Nghi Loc district, he took out his personal cell phone to read a text message from a relative and continued driving.

More than 2 minutes later, driver Loc put away his phone, but the image was recorded by a passenger on the bus and posted on social media. According to the statement, at the time the driver used his phone while driving, there were more than 10 passengers on the bus.
