Two weeks after its release, expected to be a blockbuster in terms of revenue, 'Kong: Skull Island' still hasn't been able to reach the budget that the producers spent.

According to statistics from Mojo, Kong: Skull Island had a revenue of nearly 309 million USD by March 23 after two weeks of showing in 65 countries and territories. Of which, in the US market, the film reached 119 million USD, the international market brought in about 190 million USD.

Countries outside the US with high revenue so far include the UK and South Korea. In Southeast Asia, Vietnam is in the Top countries with ideal box office revenue with more than 6.5 million USD, surpassing Thailand and Indonesia. But that is still not enough to satisfy Warner Bros. Pictures or Legendary Pictures.

Cgtn newspaper said: "Kong with a big star cast like Tom Hiddleston, Samuel L. Jackson, John Goodman, Brie Larson spent 185 million USD to make the film. The film crew also spent about 136 million USD on promotion and organizing film release events worldwide. Thus, the budget for the blockbuster about giant monsters exceeded 320 million USD".

Media estimates that Kong: Skull Island needs to earn at least $450 million in revenue to break even because the producer must share profits from ticket sales with the cinema system.

Normally, this ratio fluctuates at 50-50. This means that Kong: Skull Island needs to earn more than 150 million USD in the coming days to "escape the loss".

The Los Angeles Times said Kong: Skull Island is unlikely to make a big splash in terms of revenue after two weeks of release. The two giants Warner Bros. and Legendary want to create a new monster movie empire, helping them win big like Marvel or DC.

Kong: Skull Island is the next monster blockbuster after Godzilla, released in 2014. But its achievements are not as bright as Godzilla. Three years ago, Godzilla earned 529.1 million USD in global revenue.

The 1933 version of Kong is still considered a classic, the best of Hollywood filmmakers. The later versions of the monkey king on the screen did not have the same great effect as before.

The 2005 blockbuster directed by Peter Jackson grossed more than $550 million worldwide but divided critics.
