Car crashes into crowd in Germany, police shoot driver seriously injured

A German man drove his car into a group of people standing near a bakery in the southeastern German town of Heidelberg before being chased by police and shot and seriously injured.

A 7 year old manA 3-year-old boy was killed and two people were injured when a 35-year-old German man drove his car into a crowd yesterday. "Based on the investigations so far, there is no indication of a terrorist motive," Sky News quoted a statement from police and prosecutors as saying.

The suspect got out of the car with a knife and was then chased to an old swimming pool. He was taken to hospital inHeidelberg after being shot and seriously injured by police during arrest.

The suspect underwent surgery but his current health condition is unknown.

NewspaperRhein-Neckar-Zeitung reported that the suspect stopped his car when the traffic light was red and when it turned green, he drove into the crowd at high speed and crashed into a pole.
