Hot: Kiev cuts off traffic with Donbass

(Baonghean.vn) - At the request of President Petro Poroshenko, the National Security Council of Ukraine has decided to cut off all traffic routes with Donbass.

President Poroshenko stressed: "After cutting off trade routes, Kiev will not have any trade relations with Donbass, and will resolutely block all activities from this region to Kiev."

Poroshenko once again called on neighboring countries and the international community to support this decision and asked the EU to strengthen sanctions against Russia.

Military fighting has temporarily subsided, but in its place is an economic and legal war being waged by Ukraine's leaders.

Earlier, since late January, Ukrainian extremists have begun blocking roads in the Donbass region, disrupting the supply of coal mined in territories outside the control of the Ukrainian government. The group believes that buying coal from the rebel-controlled East is treason. It is worth noting that without coal, power plants in Ukraine are at risk of closing. The Kiev government has had to declare a state of emergency in the energy sector to save resources.

In response, the self-proclaimed republics of Donetsk and Lugansk also introduced independent management of Ukrainian businesses. The head of the Donetsk state, Alexander Zakharchenko, announced a trade embargo with Kiev.
