In hamlets 9 and 10 of Nghi Kim commune, Vinh City, approximately 80% of households are Catholic. Over the years, implementing the National Target Program for building new rural areas, the local infrastructure has been developed to a high standard.
However, surveys have revealed that the drainage system is silted up and clogged, easily causing flooding; and there is also a problem of construction waste accumulating around the community cultural centers.
In order to contribute to helping the locality maintain environmental standards in the construction of new rural areas, Lieutenant Colonel Phan Dinh Quang – Political Commissar of Regiment 764 – said: After working with the Party committee, government, mass organizations and religious leaders in the locality, the unit mobilized 70 officers and soldiers, in coordination with Youth Union members and the militia of Nghi Kim commune, to dredge 2km of drainage canals and clean up the area around the cultural centers.
