Witness recounted:“At the time of the incident, I was on the M2 line (the blue line of the St. Petersburg metro). Suddenly our train stopped somewhere for half an hour. All the passengers did not understand what was happening. The staff announced that all the exits and entrances were blocked.
After a while, the train operator asked the conductor to open the windows to ventilate the compartments. But the doors remained closed. Everyone on the train began to panic. Then the train continued moving.
At the next station, people rushed out to see a scene of smoke covering the entire station. It was horrifying! Everyone tried to cover their noses with scarves or handkerchiefs. When they reached the ground, the streets were filled with the sound of ambulance sirens, and firefighters and rescue workers were mobilized to transport the dead and injured. I never took the subway again.
According to the Russian Anti-Terrorism Committee, the explosion between the Sennaya metro station and the Technical University in St. Petersburg has so far killed at least 9 people and injured more than 20.
