Chairman of Vietnam Oil and Gas Group transferred to Ministry of Industry and Trade

Mr. Nguyen Quoc Khanh will step down as Chairman of the Vietnam Oil and Gas Group (PetroVietnam) after more than a year in office.

The Government's decision to dismiss Mr. Nguyen Quoc Khanh from the position of Chairman of PetroVietnam and transfer him to the Ministry of Industry and Trade was announced at around 3:00 p.m. this afternoon (March 9). The reason for the dismissal and transfer is "due to the requirement to arrange work according to normal tasks".

Previously on March 7, the Ministry of Industry and Trade announced that the Party Committee of the Ministry of Industry and TradeHe agreed to transfer Mr. Nguyen Quoc Khanh to work at this agency. The reason for the transfer is due to "personnel needs".

According to the procedure, the appointment, transfer or dismissal of the Chairman of the Board of Members of a State-owned corporation such as PetroVietnam is under the authority of the Prime Minister, but based on the proposal of the governing and related ministries, the Ministry of Industry and Trade and the Ministry of Home Affairs. After consideration, the Prime Minister will issue a decision on this matter.

Also on March 7, Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Tran Quoc Khanh had a working session with key leaders of PetroVietnam to inform about the personnel plan that the Party Committee of the Ministry of Industry and Trade has agreed upon.

Mr. Nguyen Quoc Khanh is 57 years old this year, from Ha Tinh. He graduated with a degree in Geophysics, majoring in Petroleum Geological Exploration from Baku Petroleum University - former Soviet Union (now Azerbaijan).

Mr. Khanh has worked for many years at PetroVietnam, holding many important positions in this group: General Director of Petroleum Products Processing and Trading Company (PDC) before this unit merged with Petechim to form Vietnam Oil Corporation (PV Oil) - a member of PetroVietnam. In July 2009, he was appointed as one of the 7 Deputy General Directors of PetroVietnam and held that position for more than 3 years before becoming General Director in November 2014.

Before being appointed as Chairman and General Director of PetroVietnam in January 2016, Mr. Khanh had been acting Chairman for about half a year when his predecessor Nguyen Xuan Son was dismissed. On June 8, 2016, Mr. Khanh was elected as a National Assembly Delegate of the 14th term in Quang Nam province.
